QUANAH AND FRIENDS - STORIES
Part Nine

Quanah has had some interesting adventures this past year, including a flying squirrel, a trip to the ocean, the attack of the bird feeder, and short bread eating.

Mr. and Mrs. W have friends in Maine, USA which is on the north east side of the country. And they took a trip there in the fall time and of course Quanah had to go with them.

Q likes to travel in the car and lies across Mr. W's shoulders as Mr. W drives the car. They make lots of stops so that everyone can go to the bathroom, have something to eat and drink, and to walk around.

When they arrived in Maine, they went to the ocean. Quanah was all excited because when he saw all the sand on the beach, he thought it was a BIG kitty litter box and used it right away. Luckily Mrs. W had a bag and could scoop.

But then Q heard the noise of the waves and he was very scared because it sounded like thunder which he is frightened of. Even though Mr. W cuddled Quanah, Q was still very afraid and they had to leave the beach.

But he had a good time eating lots of fish, walking through parks, and being petted by lots of strangers who liked him.

After they went back home, Quanah met with a flying squirrel. Q and Mr. W were in the backyard under a small tree, and Q kept looking up into the tree.

Suddenly a squirrel fell out of the tree, and almost landed on Quanah. The squirrel was very scared and ran into the garden. Quanah was very scared and ran into the house. It took lots of coaxing to get Q to go back outside, but he did watch the sky for more squirrels.

His next adventure came when Mr. W hung the bird feeders in the bush in the front of the house.

Quanah watched with interest at the birds who came to eat the bird seed, and when Mr. W took him outside, Quanah ran over to the feeder.

If he stood up on his back legs, he could just reach the edge of the feeder, except it tipped, and all the bird seed came falling on top of Quanah. Mrs. W said that if Q laid in the grass, the birds might come down and eat the seeds off of him.

Quanah has developed a taste for short bread cookies. Mrs. W knows kitties are not supposed to eat sweets so she holds up the whole cookie and lets him gnaw off what he can. Mostly crumbs.

For Xmas, Mrs. W bought a nice ginger bread house for the dining room table, which has short bread cookies as part of the decorations. After a couple of days she noticed that one of the short bread stars has changed from a 5-pointed star to a 3-pointed star, with crumbs all over the place.

When Mrs. W accused Quanah of doing it, Mr. W defended him saying there was no proof and it could have been any one of the other kitties. Mrs W then took some of the crumbs and offered them to the kitties. The result was Q was the only one to eat them.

Mr. W just shook his head and told Quanah that he had just ruined the whole defending argument.
