QUANAH AND FRIENDS - STORIES
Part Eight
In the summer of 1998, Quanah found a new friend . . . Romeo.
Romeo was a little white maltese terrier and lived next door to Quanah. He only weighed eight pounds and was full of energy. He loved to run and chase Quanah. Except Q did not play well. He would lie down, and pretend to hit Romeo. Romeo would run up to Q, then run away.
Romeo would come into Quanah's house and Quanah would go into Romeo's house. Romeo's owners liked Quanah, and would let him come into their house anytime he wanted.
One day Quanah and Romeo were playing on the front lawn, under a tree. A bird flew into the tree, and Quanah thought he was a big hunter, so he leaped into the air to try to catch the bird. And almost landed on Romeo. This scared Romeo, and he would not play with Q for many days, because he thought Quanah was trying to jump on him.
When it started to get cold, Mrs. W knit Romeo some nice coats to wear, and then made a green coat for Quanah as well. Q did not like the coat very much, but knew that if he wanted to go outside when it was cold, he had to wear his coat. And when he came back in the house, he would sit in the hall until Mrs. W took the coat off.
Quanah liked to sleep on Mr. and Mrs. W's bed. If Romeo came in to visit, he would run up the stairs and jump onto the bed to play with Quanah.
