QUANAH AND FRIENDS - STORIES
Part Seven

When Quanah was about three and a half years old, he discovered that patting felt so good. He would follow Mr. W all around, wanting to be patted all the time. Quanah never really learned to meow like a kitty, but had a little "chirrrpppp," sort of a cross between a meow and a purr. So when he wanted to be patted, he would chirp as well. He was so cute. Just a couple of months before that, Q did not even want to be cuddled, he was too big for that, and suddenly he became a little suck!

He also liked to have his chin and ears scratched, but would not let anyone, even Mr. W, touch his tummy. If you tried to rub his belly, it was a signal to Quanah that you wanted to fight. And he would play by footing and biting your hand.

Quanah slept with Mr. and Mrs. W. There was a shelf at the head of their bed, and that was where Q slept. He had two toys that he slept with. A grey stuffed toy kitty which was about half Q's size, and a black fur collar which came off an old coat of Mrs. W's.

When Quanah was a baby, because he had no one to cuddle with, Mrs. W gave him the kitty and collar to keep him company. As he got bigger, these became his toys which he slept with.

When Quanah was lonesome, he would carry his toy kitty or his fur collar down the stairs from the bedroom to the living room. If he was very lonesome, he would bring both of them down stairs. You could always tell how lonesome Quanah was, if it was a one toy or two toy time.
