I took a two-day workshop Oct 18-19, 2003 with Kaffe Fassett which was wonderful. The following are the photos of the various steps it took to do the homework and the sample piece done in the workshop.

I quite enjoyed the workshop and I learned a lot about colours. One thing that Kaffe insists on is to keep putting your work up on a board and to stand back from it and look at it. It can be very different from 10 inches away and 10 feet away.

These are all the colours I picked to use for the workshop. I have always wanted to design my own fall colour sweater, and this would be my chance.

These are my inspiration: A teddy bear in fall colours, some maple leaves, and "Persian Poppies" by Kaffe.

My finished homework to take to the Kaffe workshop. You had to select some of his designs but use your colours and make them your own. I worked seed stitch all around the sample to keep it flat.

This is the first design from Kaffe and is the border of his "Floating Circles" sweater. Being a little nervous to start, I did not really use the fall colours but selected colours from the pile that worked together. If I did it again, I would have blended the background colours as I did for the other two designs.

This is my fall colours version of "Persian Poppies". I learned much doing just this little bit, such as do not have a dark background and dark foreground.

And finally, my own simple design using diamonds in my fall colours. I am very pleased with how it turned out.

My sample piece from the two-day workshop. We had to work on a "scarf" piece, selecting designs from Kaffe's books. And each person had to put their work up to be critiqued.

My first design is "Damask Flower". I had originally put a light beige in the centre petals but they died against the background so I duplicate stitched them a darker shade.

Second choice is "Steps" and I used solid colours, no shadings just to see what it would look like.

Third design is one of Kaffe's "Pots" using soft blue, green, gray, and cream for the pot with dark blue pattern, and shades of light peach and brown for the background.

And the final design is "Cones". I used solid black for the bottom cones and tried different colours and shadings for the top cones.
