MOHAIR MITTEN PATTERN

Materials
GAUGE: 3.5 - 4 sts = 1 inch
- Needles: 4.0 mm DPN's
- Needles: 4.5 mm DPN's
- 220 metres of Mohair, using 2 strands
(I used 1 strand pink and 1 strand purple, for a total of 160 gm of mohair)- Marker of some sort
CUFF
With 4.0 mm needles, using 2 strands of mohair together cast on 30 sts. Being careful not to twist stitches, join the knitting and rib in K1, P1 rib for 2 1/2 inches (12-13 rows).
BODY
Row 1: Change to 4.5 mm needles, knit around, increasing 2 sts evenly.
Rows 2 - 4: Knit.
SHAPE THUMB
Row 5: K14, K1FBF(Knit into the front, back and front of same stitch). Knit to end of row. (34 sts)
Rows 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 : Knit.
Row 7: K14, K1FB (Knit into the front and back of the same stitch), K1, K1FB. Knit to end of row. (36 sts)
Row 9: K14, K1FB, K3, K1FB, Knit to end of row. (38 sts)
Row 11: K14, K1FB, K5, K1FB, Knit to end of row. (40 sts)
Row 13: K14, K1FB, K7, K1FB, Knit to end of row. (42 sts)
Row 15: K14, slip 12 sts on to a thread, cast on 2 sts. Knit to the end of the row.
Continue to knit around on the 32 sts til distance from thumbhole opening measures 4 inches or desired length, roughly the tip of the baby finger. (16-18 rows)
Shaping for top
Row 1: K2tog, K6, repeat to the end of row. (28 sts)
Row 2 and all even numbered rows: Knit.
Row 3: K2tog, K5 repeat to the end of row. (24 sts)
Row 5: K2tog, K4 repeat to the end of row. (20 sts)
Row 7: K2tog, K3, repeat to the end of row. (16 sts)
Row 8: K2tog to the end of row. (8 sts)
Row 9: K2tog to the end of row. (4 sts)
Cut yarn, leaving a 6 inch tail, thread thru the 4 sts, pull tight, and secure. I run the thread thru the sts a couple of times.
THUMB
Row 1: Pick up and knit 5 sts where you cast on the 2 sts for the hand, and knit to the end of row. (17 sts)
Row 2: Knit around, decreasing 3 sts evenly. (14 sts)
Rows 3 to 10: Knit to the end of row. Measure the length as you may need more or less rows.
Row 11: K2tog to the end of row. (7 sts)
Thread yarn through sts and secure.
